This is what she had to say, "You said it right. This team has been relentless throughout the entire season. Even if they were to go out and run a race below their potential, they never gave up and continued to become better and better so that when they competed again, it would be a different story. I'm proud of where these girls got to mentally and excited to see what they can do next season.
This meet featured 13 of the RSC schools with 98 runners among the crowd. The Ohio Christian Men's team took that as a challenge as they placed three of their six runners into the top 10 finishers on the day. DJ Dickerson led the pack as he finished second overall coming after only one lone Rio Grande runner. Coming in fifth overall in the race was Corry Mientkiewicz as he ran a Pulling the final top 10 spot for the Trailblazers was the older of the two Mientkiewicz brothers, Chester Mientkiewicz, running a solid The Trailblazers had a few runners with them that either had not competed this season at all or have had a long period of time between their last race to this Conference meet.
One of which was newcomer Riley Dunham who had not competed at all this season, coming just a week off of his soccer season ending, and chose to give it a shot on the biggest stage in the River States Conference. Riley came in 73rd after running a Evan Caldwell had not competed since the first meet of the season at Wright State, but he came out to run and finished at Bringing in the final Trailblazer to compete was Derek Donner.
Derek had not competed since the Wilmington meet back on October 15th. After asking Coach Brown on how she felt her team did in throughout the season, she said "The men really have faced a lot this season. Several races had not gone as well as they had hoped, even though a number of those times ended up putting them higher in the University's record books.
Although discouraging things may have happened this season and we didn't get that banner, I never doubted any of their potential and am extremely proud of where they've come to in their careers this season. Unfortunately they only managed to tie, as Rio Grande took the win home after a Lady Trailblazer defeat. The first set deemed to be a terrible start to what became an incredibly, hard-fought match ending in a Redstorm win. That first set loss only made Ohio Christian come back much stronger than before in the second set taking the Redstorm all the way to a score of with the Trailblazers tying up the series This set came much easier to OCU as they swung for a The third set turned into an all-out brawl as neither teams refused to back down in the standard 25 point match and it took Rio Grande to reach 27 points to take out the Trailblazers in a Blazer defeat.
Each team had a total of 12 Kills to their names with both having roughly the same swing percentages on the set. With Rio Grande taking the lead, this helped them taste blood as they took down the Trailblazers slightly easier with a late game run to end out the match in a deciding fashion, Rylee Barr came through with 29 assists to close out the season.
I asked Coach Coyle on how she felt about this season and this team, here's what she had to say, "I can't put into words how proud I am of this team.
We knew that this year was going to be a challenge, but I have to say that these girls bought into my vision for this program without any questions or doubts. We may not have won as much as we would have liked to, but I know that these girls grew so much on and off the court. This year was an awesome start to building the culture that I want for OCU volleyball and I'm ready to continue to build this program. Their challenge in front of them to accomplish this goal was none other than the Bears of West Virginia Tech.
