Competitors such as Nikon D, D already introduced several models with this feature, so Canon is a step or two behind, but the T4i potentially levels the playing field. Each will silently track subjects and automatically adjust focus while shooting video in live mode.
If it works as advertised, this will be a boon for those interested in using their DSLR like a camcorder. Recording a live concert, for example, would often require you to track a performer moving across the stage. To be clear, Canon has always had auto-focus for video — even while shooting you can depress the shutter or push the AF-ON button to get focus lock.
All Cross-Type AF Points: Cross-type autofocus points are more accurate and more desired because they can grab focus on a wider range of subjects. If your non-cross-type point is oriented only in the vertical direction, and you aim it at a subject displaying a strong line also also in the vertical direction such as the side of a door frame it will not be able to detect the line or a change in contrast, and will not be able to focus.
Aim it at the strong horizontal line of the top of the door, and it will lock right on. So the fact that the T4i uses cross-type AF sensors for all 9 AF points means that the autofocus system is significantly more accurate, and you can confidently use not just the center AF point but all the outer points as well to focus on or track a subject. Faster Frame Rate: The T4i now boasts a more rapid 5 frames per second maximum continuous shooting speed, and incorporates the speedy Digic 5 processor, narrowing another major difference with the mid-level 60D.
These features will allow you to capture quicker shots in a burst thus giving you the greater possibility of capturing just the right moment of action or the best facial expression or pose. As mentioned, the Canon T4i also finally brings us great quality touch-sensitive not old-fashioned pressure-sensitive touch-screen capabilities on a Canon dSLR with smear-resistance!
You can select and change your settings on the Quick Control Screen Q Screen simply by touching your choice, or use it to tell the camera where to focus during Live View shooting.
It can also be used to navigate the menus, and during image playback you can easily swipe and zoom with iPhone-like multi-touch motions and response. Early reports indicate that the screen responds incredibly well, and the graphic layout of icons and options make it easy to use. OVFs have no time lag and require no power - as opposed to electronic viewfinders, which can drain battery life.
OVFs are also better in low light situations. We consider a lower weight better because lighter devices are more comfortable to carry. A lower weight is also an advantage for home appliances, as it makes transportation easier, and for many other types of products. With less than full coverage, you may have to crop your photos afterward to get them looking perfect. A hot shoe can be used to attach an external flash, as well as light meters, viewfinders, rangefinders and other attachments.
Resolution is an essential indicator of a screen's image quality, representing the maximum amount of pixels that can be shown on the screen. The resolution is given as a compound value, comprised of horizontal and vertical pixels. A higher screen resolution provides a sharper image, making it easier to review your photos.
Optics 1. The larger the sensor the more light the sensor captures yielding in better image quality. The more focus points the more flexibility in picking which part of the scene to focus on. They also give the image sensor a better probability in identifying the right area of the scene to focus on in more automatic modes.
The number of megapixels determines the resolution of the images captured with the main camera. A higher megapixel count means that the camera is capable of capturing more details. However, the megapixel count is not the only important element determining the quality of an image. With a higher light sensitivity ISO level , the sensor absorbs more light. This can be used to capture moving objects using a fast shutter speed, or to take images in low light without using a flash.
Fast continuous shooting is useful for catching action shots. With AF tracking, once you choose the subject and press the shutter release part way down, as the subject moves, the autofocus will follow it. No more out of focus shots. Phase-detection autofocus is much faster than a contrast detection autofocus, allowing for sharper images. It's true that most serious pros end up with a high end body. But don't ding the Rebels - most of what sets one image apart from another is NOT the camera body used to take the shot, but rather the skill of the shooter, the lighting, and the lenses.
The body choice is low on the pecking order. TCampbell said:. Joined Jun 28, Messages Reaction score 8. I appreciate all the advice guys, thank you very much. A refurbed 7D would cost about the same with the kit lens. I'm not too concerned about whether other people are going to judge me as a "professional" yet, because I'm not.
I feel like this is a decent setup for what I intend to use the camera for, it will allow me to use it for both business and pleasure and to learn. Thanks again for all of your help and advice!
